Review of Lehigh Acres, Florida

I’d rather live in the mountains

I grew up in Lehigh and liked it better then now it has too many people. The crime is worse now with the growth in population. I miss my small town that no one seemed to know about and thought it was so far away. People use to call Lehigh the boonies. The weather is gross here most of the year it’s too hot! It’s so rare to be cold here and I know there’s a lot of people that like that because they keep moving here but I don’t. I wish with pretty much every fiber of my being that I could leave here for a small quaint town up north. Where it has seasons not hot and less hot. Cold here is in the 50’s because it almost never stays colder than that past the morning. It would be nice to not be exposed to the sun so much. I barely go outside here and I just had to go to the dermatologist to see if a spot I have is cancer. She told me I should be wearing sunscreen even when I am inside. One thing I can say that rarely has been an issue for me is hurricanes and tornadoes which if you look at the data Lehigh seems at risk for but I only evacuated once in over 30 years of living here. And when we returned we had a lot of trees down but fortunately no damage to our home that was from Hurricane Irma. Oh and there also seems to be a common misconception about alligators roaming the streets in Florida. I have maybe seen two alligators once by a retention pond and almost as soon as I saw it wildlife people were there to remove it. And the other time was when I saw one dead so they are not as common as you would think. But if you like growing cities with lots of diversity and hot weather year round Lehigh might be the place for you but please don’t move here or at least wait until I have moved because there’s too many people here for my liking. Oh I forgot to mention the traffic it changes depending on the season and when I say season I don’t mean winter, spring, summer or fall I mean the season when the snowbirds are down. They double the amount of traffic. It’s a trade off during the summer when it’s so dreadful outside you don’t want to leave your house the traffic is better. But late fall, winter, and early spring when the weather is nicer you have to face the bad traffic to go most places.
